W Trek from East to West: The Best Way to Experience Patagonia’s Iconic Trail

Starting this season, QN Travel Chile will exclusively operate the legendary W Trek in Torres del Paine from East to West—a change that brings both smoother logistics and a richer trekking experience.
Your adventure kicks off with a scenic afternoon bus ride from Puerto Natales to the park’s eastern entrance. After a warm welcome and a restful night at Sector Central, Day 2 begins with a highlight of the trek: the Base Torres viewpoint. By tackling this iconic ascent early in the morning, you’ll be at your best—well-rested and full of energy—giving you the best chance to capture that perfect photo while enjoying stunning views of the towers.
From here, the trail flows naturally westward, guiding you past the striking Los Cuernos peaks, through the lush forests and dramatic vistas of the French Valley, and eventually to the mesmerizing Grey Glacier. Each day brings new rewards, culminating in a grand finale at Lago Grey, followed by a catamaran ride across Lago Pehoé—the perfect way to end your adventure.
Hiking east to west also offers better views, with the Paine Massif always in front of you, and a natural progression of difficulty. Starting with the challenging Base Torres hike sets the tone for the journey, while following it with shorter, more varied hikes helps you conserve energy. The two toughest hikes are spaced out with easier days, allowing you to recharge and make the most of the trek.
If you’re planning the W Trek, consider visiting Torres del Paine outside of peak season (December–February). For a quieter experience, we recommend coming in October or early November to witness the beauty of Patagonia’s spring, or late March and April for the stunning fall foliage.
